Happy Holi!

Holi is a celebration of the coming of spring (and the corresponding end of winter, even though we're rounding off winter at about 90 degrees Fahrenheit here in Bangalore, folks) and the triumph of good over evil. Although it's a religious festival belonging to Hinduism, Holi is still celebrated by people of all religions in India.

Today, I played Holi with all of my USAC pals, soaking each other with pichkaris (manual water guns) and hurling colored powder at each other in the middle of the street. By the end of the extravaganza, we were all sopping wet walking rainbows.

Naturally, we also performed our Bollywood dance to the song Balam Pichkari, which is about Holi. Seriously... we can barely go anywhere without doing that dance.

We finished off our celebration with some samosas (kind of like an Indian hot pocket...? But a lot better) and kaju katli, an Indian sweet made of cashews.

And, for anyone who's familiar, I will let you know that we did not consume any bhang this Holi, even if we kind of wanted to.
