Today was/is MahaShivratri, a Hindu holiday dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Through my Hinduism class, I’ve learned a lot about Lord Shiva, and today I wanted to do something to connect that in-class learning with a real-world experience. I convinced a couple pals to go with me, and I was off to Kempfort Temple! Naturally, it was packed for the holiday, but it was still incredible. People and blessings drifted around me, their existence difficult to miss, overshadowed both literally and metaphorically only by the massive statue of Shiva we were all gravitating toward. Although I did have to pay 500 INR to get into the temple without waiting 3+ hours, (because as my local friend Sid said, “Even God has a price.”) it was an incredible experience I will not soon forget!
