Blog #289: Maturity v. Goofiness

It is often that Ally and I share our struggles with being more mature than most anyone else around us. (Pretentious, right?)
It is also often that Ally and I waste our time doing completely idiotic things, like using half a can of hairspray to style her hair into a mohawk.
Seriously... we spend our time doing some pretty goofy stuff.
That said, I think that maturity and goofiness aren't mutually exclusive. Yes, I contend that in a lot of ways Ally and I are very mature, but we also don't take ourselves too seriously. We're independent and professional, self-reflective and self-aware, but we also like making up dumb songs or seeing how crazy we can make our hair. The fact that we'll make funny faces and laugh at each other for 30 minutes straight doesn't mean we're childish, I just think it means we've managed to grasp onto the goofiness that allows children to have so much fun in spite of us getting older.
So, I guess that's my hot take; you can be mature and goofy at the same time. Just because you're mature it doesn't mean you can't have fun, and just because you don't have fun it doesn't mean you're mature. So break out some dorky dance moves, talk to your friends in made up accents, and don't take yourself too seriously.
On that note, here's Ally rocking the mohawk we crafted tonight.
