My friend Engels is a heck of a guy. One of my very first friends here at Morningside, we've been through the ups and downs of college together since the beginning. And, since the very beginning, I knew he would do great things.
Engels has a passion and drive like no other, and he's never scared to proclaim a crazy idea. One such crazy idea? Writing his own play.
After about three years of hard work, tonight I finally got to watch this play. I'd heard ideas and drafts of "Blink of an Eye" through the years, but being able to finally see it as a full production was honestly amazing. I had high expectations, and all of them were surpassed. I think objectively, without any of my bias, the show was amazing.
First of all, it's hilarious. It can be difficult to successfully execute comedy, but I found myself laughing out loud multiple times throughout the show. Along with this, the plot was interesting and layered, and even though I generally knew the story, I still felt a sense of shock at the end. On top of all this, the set design was way cool, and the whole technological aspect of the show was really innovative.
Let me tell you, I was proud before the show even started, but after watching it... I was filled to the brim with pride. So much, in fact, that I cried about it. It's just so special to hear your friends gush about their ideas and passions for years and then be able to finally watch the culmination of all their hard work. It's also exciting to know this is only the beginning, and there's so much more to come.
Anyway, watching the show tonight and looking back at the years when Engels was working on it, I realized once again that time really does go by in the Blink of an Eye. I'm just glad to have such cool friends to spend this time with.
