Blog #228: Scary Sleeper

I wouldn't consider myself an angry person. Rarely do I express anger toward others, and if I do, it is typically not extreme.

That said, don't ever try to wake me up.

Ally recently confessed to me that she refuses to wake me up, purely for the reason that she's too scared to. Have I ever done anything to Ally while she was trying to wake me up? No. Would I? Probably.

Ally's fear is rooted in her experience with Mariel and me in Hawaii. Apparently, unbeknownst to me, Mariel tasked Ally with waking me up every morning because she didn't want to do it. According to Ally, "The fear in her eyes was real. She was so scared of waking you up she'd rather go cook us a four course meal than try to wake you."

I mean look... I know I'm difficult to wake up. I've slept through alarms and tornado sirens. I often "have a conversation" with the person who is waking me up, though I never have recollection of these, because I was actually sleeping the whole time. I often angrily yell expletives at the person waking me up, threaten them with horrible consequences, or will become physically violent if they try to get me out of my bed. But come on! It can't be that bad!

Well, apparently, it is. My own sister is scared to wake me up, and to this day, my roommate/best friend is terrified because of that. What can I say? I like my sleep. If you try to mess with it, that's when I become a scary sleeper.

*This picture was taken on our way to Hawaii, before Ally had met Mariel or learned the dangers of waking me up. I wasn't asleep quite yet when Ally told me this, and it ended up being too cold to sleep anyway (literally we were so cold we thought we were going to have to spoon on the airport floor or just get hypothermia). Still, Ally played a dangerous game in trying to interrupt my sleep.
