Some people love dogs, others are cat ladies, and others still prefer birds. Me... I'm a plant lady.

I'll be honest, I've never gotten into the whole pet craze. I think they're dirty, unnecessarily expensive, and really just an avoidable hassle. Some people have stopped talking to me because of this, but it's the truth.

Now this doesn't mean that I hate animals in general. Heck, I'm a vegetarian— cruelty toward animals is not something I take lightly.

This also doesn't mean that I'm completely emotionless when I see a golden-doodle puppy or wee kitten. They're furry and cute, and I'm not entirely immune to that.

Still, I'm ready to give puppies/kittens back after a few minutes, and just because I don't eat cows it doesn't mean I want to be around them. Animals are just not my thing.

On the contrary, plants are my thing. Although this has been true for years, I've only recently had success in owning plants without killing them. Now, I'm even more obsessed.

I'd prefer a trip to a greenhouse over an animal shelter any day of the week, and I'm addicted to buying plants. Succulents have typically been my go-to (easy to maintain, right?), but I'm looking to get into some larger and vinier guys. I also love bamboo, which I wholeheartedly believe is the plant of the future. All I need is five minutes to make my case and convince you of that too.

When it really comes down to it, plants are for me what pets are for others. Some of them even have names— Alvin is my most loyal pal and has stuck around for years now.

My plants aren't dirty and they don't try to steal my food, plus I don't have to take them to expensive vet appointments or pick up their poop. Plus they make me happy. To me, that's a perfect combo, and is why I think I can pretty accurately be called a plant lady.
