Ever have one of those Mondays that's just... SUCH a Monday?? That was yesterday for me. It was a rough one.
Long story short my rear brakes were getting grindy, so I took my car into the Midas near my work. They gave me an estimate of over $900 to fix just my rear brakes, plus other "necessary fixes" that would give me a grand total of about $1,300.
(Short sidebar, when I told them I "consulted with my husband," they immediately cut the price in half, saying "Well, I mean what's really necessary would probably only be about $550." First of all, yeah right. Second of all, screw them for trying to get as much money out of me as possible since I'm a young woman they assumed doesn't know anything about cars.)
Anyway, I tell them there's no way I'm paying them $900 to fix a couple of brakes, and I take my car and leave. A coworker of mine (a middle-aged Bosnian man who could be described as a little rough around the edges) is just flabbergasted that they would try to charge me so much. He's also not just flabbergasted, he's upset.
He tells me to "Go to Lawando's and say you're with me, they'll take care of you." Hoping for basically anything other than paying $1,300, I headed to Lawando's after work, and it did not disappoint.
They did, in fact, take care of me at Lawando's, and took care of my rear rotors and brake pads for a grand total of $220, instead of over $900. And on that note, I'll be taking recommendations from Fikret from now on.
