Blog #116: Today's Flowers

The flowers on the hillside Grow in colors I didn't know existed And I wonder If my eyes have actually never seen those colors Or if I have seen them And failed to notice Failed to remember Failed to care

What I do know Is that the next time I see those colors Those shades of yellow and red and purple I will remember them And I will think of the time I walked with my friend And was surprised by the colors

I also know I will remember them The next time I read Slaughterhouse Five My favorite book Because those colors are pressed between the pages And take the form of the flowers I saw this morning And killed

As I pulled them from the ground

So it goes.
